Have Your Cake And Eat It Too

on October 24, 2010

Weekends are the best time for baking, at least for me. For one, everyone’s around to enjoy my goodies with me. Two, I get my ingredients fresh from the grocery when I bake on a weekend. Three, there’s nothing more energizing than baking on a sluggish Saturday/Sunday. Today happens to be a time for torte. Here’s a quick and easy recipe for a low-carb [but splendid] dessert. I believe anyone who wants to try their hand at baking would be more than satisfied with the results of this terrific time-saving treat. Smiley

Chocolate Truffle Torte

You’ll be needing:

70g Lindt Excellence 70% Cocoa Bar
1/8 cup butter
1/8 cup Crisco or white vegetable shortening
about 20 packets of Splenda
4 eggs
1 cup heavy cream
cocoa powder for dusting [optional]

Procedure:

1. Whisk everything until completely smooth.
2. Pour the chocolate mixture into a greased 9-inch springform pan [or pie plate].
3. Bake at 350° F for 15 minutes or until the torte has puffed around the edges but the center is almost firm to the touch but still slightly jiggly. [Sorry for the lack of a better term.]
4. Cool completely. [You will notice that as the torte cools, it will become less fluffy/puffed.] Chill well. Dust with the cocoa powder before serving.

*Tips:
In case you are wondering where to get heavy cream, it is available at S&R, and Santis Delicatessen.
Crisco, a popular brand of shortening, is available in Cash & Carry and in all Rustan’s Supermarket.

Now who says you can’t indulge without feeling guilty? Smiley
